Notable Gifts

Yusuf H. Shirazi Complex at LUMS to Herald a New Era of Research and Learning

LUMS hosted the groundbreaking ceremony of its first green building, the ‘Yusuf H. Shirazi Complex’, named after the former Chairman of Atlas Group and one of the founding members of LUMS. The Complex will be a hub of research, innovation, and intellectual exchange at the University and house high-impact centres collaborating with industry and government to address the grand challenges of South Asia.

Founding Pro Chancellor, Syed Babar Ali Engages with Scholarship Fund Recipients

An interactive session featuring Syed Babar Ali Scholarship Fund recipients was held at LUMS, attended by Syed Babar Ali, Founding Pro Chancellor, LUMS, who has generously supported the programme since 2008. He commended the students' hard work and urged them to embrace all opportunities at LUMS, stressing the importance of values, character, and giving back. The scholars appreciated Syed Babar Ali for his vision and passion for educating the youth.

Dr. Gohar Ejaz Renews Partnership with LUMS to Support NOP Scholars

Entrepreneur, philanthropist, and CEO, Lake City Holdings, Dr. Gohar Ejaz, has reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the LUMS National Outreach Programme. A longtime advocate and champion of accessible education, Dr. Ejaz, has supported the NOP since 2017. During the course of the year, Dr. Ejaz also visited LUMS twice and engaged with the beneficiaries of the Gohar Ejaz Scholarship Fund, who appreciated his passion for creating educational opportunities and making them attainable for students.

Faysal Bank Contributes towards Naming of a Discussion Room at LUMS

Displaying a strong commitment to education and philanthropy, a delegation from Faysal Bank Ltd., including Mr. Yousaf Hussain, President and CEO, visited LUMS on May 14, 2024, to contribute towards the naming of a discussion room located on the ground floor of the Academic Block. The partnership between Faysal Bank and LUMS has strengthened over the years, particularly through Faysal Bank's steadfast support of the National Outreach Programme (NOP).

USAID Scholarship Beneficiaries at LUMS Share Inspiring Stories in Interactive Session

LUMS collaborated with the Higher Education Commission (HEC), Pakistan, and United States Agency for International Development (USAID) to host an interactive session with students, under the umbrella of the USAID-funded Merit and Needs-Based Scholarship Programme (MNBSP). Through this programme, female NOP students from Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan, Sindh, and Southern Punjab have been sponsored by USAID-MNBSP to study at LUMS.

Al Moiz and Thal Industries Sign MoU to Support the LUMS National Outreach Programme

Al Moiz and Thal Industries has reaffirmed its commitment to LUMS by signing an agreement to sponsor additional NOP scholars. The signatories included Dr. Ali Cheema, Vice Chancellor, LUMS, and Mr. Iftikhar Babar, Senior Vice President CSR and Corporate Affairs, Al Moiz and Thal Industries. Al Moiz and Thal Industries have consistently supported the National Outreach Programme since 2018 by sponsoring the studies of talented and deserving students at LUMS.

Diamond Paints Pledges to Sponsor National Outreach Programme at LUMS

Diamond Paints has extended its support to LUMS by signing an agreement to fund the National Outreach Programme. The formal agreement was signed between Dr. Tariq Jadoon, Provost, LUMS, and Mr. Mir Shoaib Ahmed, CEO, Diamond Paints. This partnership highlights the transformative power of education and the collaborative efforts between industry and academia to foster growth and development in Pakistan. Mr. Ali praised Diamond Paints' support for the NOP and highlighted the transformational power of education.

Nimir Group Supports the National Outreach Programme at LUMS

Nimir Group has committed to sponsoring a National Outreach Programme scholar at LUMS. The Group’s partnership with LUMS was formalised at an MoU signing ceremony where Dr. Tariq Jadoon, Provost, LUMS, and Mr. Zafar Mahmood, CEO, Nimir Group, signed the agreement. Dr. Jadoon appreciated Nimir Group’s support for the NOP and highlighted that it is due to the philanthropy and generosity of such industry partners that the University continues to provide access to higher education to talented students in Pakistan.

LUMS Hosts Interactive Donor-Student Session for DHA Scholarship Fund Recipients

An interactive donor-student session at LUMS brought together donors and recipients of the DHA Scholarship Fund. The Defence Housing Authority (DHA), Lahore signed an MoU with LUMS in 2023 to support the National Outreach Programme (NOP). Senior executives from DHA, including Colonel Ahsan Ahmad Khan, Director HR, and Major Abdur Rehman Khurram Butt, Deputy Director HR, were present at the event.

Give a Day to LUMS Campaign

Give a Day to LUMS (GADTL), brainchild of Founding Pro Chancellor, Syed Babar Ali, and spearheaded by the Office of Advancement at LUMS, is a targeted campaign that not only focuses alumni attention on giving back to their alma but about giving deserving students the opportunity to benefit from the same transformative LUMS experience that alumni have already had. In 2022, the campaign was awarded the Best of CASE Asia-Pacific Region Award in the Fundraising - Targeted Campaigns and Appeals category.

This year, the Campaign has raised over PKR 42 million from 220+ donors from July 1, 2023 – June 30, 2024.

Alumni Give Back

International Petrochemicals (Pvt.) Limited Supports Student Scholarships

International Petrochemicals (Pvt.) Limited (IPC) signed an agreement to support the National Outreach Programme at LUMS. Dr. Tariq Jadoon, Provost, LUMS, and Mr. Faraz Ahmed, Director IPC and LUMS Alumnus (BS, 2018), signed the agreement. Dr. Jadoon lauded IPC's support, expressing gratitude for their generous contribution.

Mr. Ahsan Sheikh (MBA 1998)

Mr. Sheikh, CEO of Kinetic Pakistan, and his family came together to support the NOP and MBA students at LUMS through the ‘Sheikh M. Yunus Scholarship Fund’ and the ‘Waheeda Yunus Scholarship Fund’. These funds have been established in memory of his parents.

Mr Faisal Raja (MBA 2002)

The ‘Justice Raja Muhammad Sabir Scholarship’ at LUMS has been set up by Mr. Faisal Sabir Raja in honour of his late father, who was a passionate philanthropist and dedicated 30 years to his law practice at the Supreme Court and High Court of Pakistan. The Fund will sponsor an NOP scholar at the Shaikh Ahmad Hassan School of Law.

MBA Class of 2012 Signs MoU to Establish Class Fund

To support access to a world-class education for talented scholars, the MBA Class of 2012 has signed an MoU with LUMS to establish the MBA Class of 2012 Scholarship Fund. This partnership aims to support the studies of undergraduate and MBA scholars at LUMS by providing deserving students with interest-free loans.

BSc 2014

On the 10th anniversary of their graduation, the BSc Class of 2014 has pledged their support and announced an endowment to sponsor the education of an NOP scholar for the entire duration of their degree. This generous gift reflects their commitment to giving back and supporting the future of talented students.

BSc 2017

Three years ago, the BSc Class of 2017 united to sponsor an NOP scholar at LUMS. The Class has decided to elevate their commitment by establishing an endowment fund. This enduring legacy ensures ongoing support for future scholars, reflecting the Class of 2017's dedication to empowering the next generation and ensuring that talented individuals.

LUMS Alumna and Microsoft Executive, Fatima Kardar Engages with the University Community

Ms. Fatima Kardar, a Computer Science graduate from the BSc Class of 2000 and Corporate Vice President at Microsoft, returned to LUMS to engage with university leadership, faculty, and students. With over 22 years at Microsoft, she has risen through the ranks to the position of Corporate Vice President, COO, and Chief Technical Advisor to Microsoft CTO, Kevin Scott. She and her husband, Mr. Ali Alvi, have established the 'Zaryana Alvi Endowment Fund' to support National Outreach Programme scholars.

Leaders at LUMS: Inspiring Insights with Mr. Kashan Hasan, CEO, Shan Foods


The latest session of 'Leaders at LUMS' was an in-depth and thought-provoking dialogue with Mr. Kashan Hasan, CEO of Shan Foods. An IBA Karachi graduate, Mr. Hasan has over two decades of global market expertise in sales, trade marketing, customer and consumer marketing and key account management in the Middle East, UK, North, and South Africa. Drawing on his extensive industry experience, Mr. Hasan offered valuable advice for navigating the complexities of contemporary leadership.

Exploring Pakistan's Electric Vehicle Potential: Honda's Senior Executives Visit LUMS

LUMS hosted senior executives from Honda including Mr. Shinji Aoyama, Executive Vice President and COO of Honda Motor Company; Mr. Noriaki Abe, Chief Officer of Motorcycle and Power Products, and Mr. Toshio Kuwahara, President and CEO of Asian Honda Motor Company. They were joined by members of the Shirazi family. During their visit, Atlas Honda Limited gifted an electric vehicle (EV) to LUMS for the purpose of academic exploration and research on the EV ecosystem. Emphasising their commitment to environmental stewardship, the Atlas Honda team’s visit also included a tree-planting ceremony at the site of the upcoming Yusuf H. Shirazi Complex.

LUMS Team Explores Collaboration Prospects with Gujrat Business Community

A LUMS delegation visited Gujrat to attend an iftar dinner, generously hosted by Mr. Nabeel Ilyas (MBA 2006), COO, GFC Fans. The dinner provided the LUMS delegation with a networking opportunity to interact with prominent members of the Gujrat community. GFC Fans is a proud partner with LUMS in sponsoring the education of talented National Outreach Programme scholars. During the visit, LUMS representatives introduced the University's initiatives and discussed potential collaboration avenues with the attendees. The visit received enthusiastic support for NOP scholars from the Gujrat business community.

LUMS Hosts Iftar Dinner in Karachi

LUMS hosted an iftar dinner in Karachi, bringing together distinguished industry leaders and friends of LUMS, for an evening of meaningful dialogue. The discussion revolved around strengthening LUMS as a premier national university, dedicated to transforming knowledge, leadership, and action to tackle Pakistan’s grand challenges and cultivate socially motivated leaders and critical thinkers. The iftar also provided an opportunity for engaging dialogue on priority areas of focus and forging effective partnerships between LUMS and leading corporate entities for meaningful change in Pakistan.

LUMS Delegation Engages with Pak-UK Business Council to Strengthen Academia-Industry Collaboration

A delegation from LUMS met with members of the Pak-UK Business Council of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) in Karachi. Attendees included prominent business leaders and representatives from FPCCI. The group discussed the importance of collaboration between academia and industry in driving innovation and economic growth. The meeting concluded with a commitment to enhancing further collaboration between the Pak-UK Business Council and LUMS, with a focus on fostering sustainable growth, addressing societal challenges, and driving innovation through industry-academia partnerships.

The marketing team at LUMS remains dedicated to enhancing the University’s brand equity, aiming to strengthen its reputation both locally and internationally. Throughout the year, we have diligently pursued this objective by refining our digital presence and expanding engagement channels to reach broader audiences. Of particular significance has been the implementation of trackable digital campaigns tailored to student recruitment and admissions. By leveraging data-driven insights, we have optimised our outreach strategies to effectively attract prospective students while ensuring measurable outcomes.

Promoting Undergraduate and Graduate Portfolio 2024

The Fall 2024 Admission Campaign was designed to deepen our connection with a wider audience. Inspired by and celebrating the works of Allama Iqbal, the campaign messaging aimed to instil hope and a spirit of patriotism admidst socio-economic and political challenges. From September 2023 to April 2024, this effort was augmented by nationwide school and corporate outreach sessions, Open Days, counsellor meet-ups, and participation in expos.

LUMS Website and Digital Interface

This year, the LUMS site welcomed 1.8 million visitors with a 90% engagement rate. After successfully mapping the user journey, the marketing team has proceeded with the next phase of the optimisation process by implementing a mechanism to track conversions from various channels for improved ROI. For instance, on the Meta platform, the team measured over 1,000 conversions resulting from 110,000 link interactions leading to admissions submissions.

Vice Chancellor’s Alumni Achievement Awards

The Alumni team executed the sixth Vice Chancellor’s Alumni Achievement Award (VC AAA). These awards recognise up to 10 alumni annually with outstanding achievements across all sectors and for exceptional contributions made to local, regional, national or global communities.

ALUMS Chat Series

Hosted 11 more episodes of ALUMS Chat, a series featuring candid, one-on-one virtual conversations with alumni spanning across careers and regions. The alumni are asked questions that are on everyone’s mind and share unique, personal stories about their journey towards success. With 21 episodes now under its belt, the Chat’s guests this year included; Nadeem Zaman (MBA 1997), Khadija Shahper Bakhtiar (BSc 2007), Hirra Babar (BSc 2010 and MBA 2014), Hamza Ayub (BSc 2015), Natasha Noorani (BSc 2015), and Mehvish Muneera Ismail (BA-LL.B 2008).

Alumni Achievements

Mariam Nusrat’s, MS 2010, start-up Breshna won the Web Summit Qatar start-up competition, PITCH, this year. Forty of the 1,043 start-ups - out of nearly ten thousand applicants - qualified for the three-day competition and Breshna came out as the winner. Mariam’s platform, Breshna, empowers users to create, share and monetise their own educational video games, with no code and at great speed. Mariam is also a Forbes Next 1k Entrepreneur, Clinton Global Initiative Honor Roll member, and winner on platforms like David Meltzer's 2-Min Pitch and Entrepreneur Magazine's Elevator Pitch TV shows.

Haider Khan, BS 2022, won three highly competitive, fully funded Master's scholarships this year and opted to enrol in the Erasmus Mundus Masters in Astrophysics and Space Sciences at the University of Rome Tor Vergata. He also received an acceptance into the Fulbright scholarship and the Erasmus Mundus International Masters in Particle Physics. He looks forward to contributing to the field of Science Communication in Pakistan to ensure that science nourishes in the hands of the future scientists of the country.

Shayan Rabbani, BSc 2020, was awarded the prestigious Chevening Scholarship. He is the only Chevening Scholar from Pakistan this year and is currently pursuing an MSc in Business Analytics at Durham University.

Homecoming 2023

Amidst an evening of camaraderie and celebration, the University reunited with its alumni on Saturday, December 23, 2023, at the annual Homecoming. Alumni enthusiastically participated in an entertaining game of trivia with questions about LUMS.

Standing in solidarity with our Palestinian brothers and sisters, the annual musical evening was swapped for an insightful and thought-provoking conversation between Mr. Adeel Hashmi and Dr. Arfa Sayeda Zehra about the true essence of education and the importance of raising future generations to be good humans. A delicious dinner enjoyed by the alumni was followed by an exciting raffle that had alumni winning great prizes. Such an enjoyable Homecoming would not have been possible without support from the event's gold sponsor, PepsiCo.

Storytelling Through Publications

The Donor Report 2021-23 recognised donors, showcased stories of student lives transformed through scholarships, highlighted the impact of alumni giving back to their alma mater, and discussed donors’ investments in building sustainable infrastructure at LUMS, among other initiatives. The aim was to foster deeper engagement with donors and inspire others to join the cause.

Nigehbaan Volume V, Issue II, provided an overview of donor-related events, activities, gifts received, and their impact.

Life at LUMS celebrated students, faculty, and alumni, showcasing how the university empowers transformation. Through impactful storytelling, striking photographs, catchy headings, and concise blurbs, this magazine captured the essence of the LUMS experience.
